Walkley Cemetery Works Day and the Big Butterfly Count

The next cemetery work session will take place on Saturday, August 8th, between 10am and 2pm, or any part of that time you can manage.

During the works day the Friends will once again be taking part in a nationwide survey, to assess the health of butterfly populations in the face of climate change and other environmental threats. They have set aside a 15 minute period (from about 11:30am) to observe and count butterfly species. They will have some easy ID charts to help or you can download an App from the Big Butterfly Count website here to ID and record what you see. The website also has a lot more information about the survey.  If you would like to go along just to take part in this survey you would be very welcome! Accompanied children also welcome.

For new members, if you haven’t visited the site before…

– The entrance to the cemetery is in Nichols Road which is a short, unadopted road off Waller Road (post code S6 5DU).
– If you are arriving by car there is a limited area for parking in the cemetery and space on Waller Road. Please avoid parking in Nichols Road.
– Please note, there are no buildings or toilet facilities on the site.
